Resolutions are a tricky thing, most of them are all about what you think you should do rather than what you really want to be doing. They typically lack commitment and let’s be honest, chances are you already have gone into the new year anticipating that you won’t even keep your resolution.
Rather than creating a resolution, we suggest changing your mind frame and creating goals/tasks that you are hoping to strive for. Here are a few tips that we’ve come up with to create attainable goals for you to keep throughout the year.
Keep it simple: don’t overcomplicate it. Keep it clear, concise, and to the point.
Find the value: take a few moments to think about why you are creating this goal. If it is because your friends are doing it and you want to join in, that is definitly the wrong reason. If it’s because paying an extra $200 a month to your credit card each month will help you pay off the balance faster, that makes more sense. You must find the value of your goal or else chances are you won’t keep it.
Be open to change: as we grow and change throughout the year, our goals and desires will change too. It is perfectly fine to modify your goals and even create new ones throughout the year! In fact, we encourage it!
Make it fun: it doesn’t have to be so serious, it can be as simple as trying a new wine when given the opportunity or exploring your city a bit more. And don’t feel pressured to set a weekly, monthly, or quarterly time frame, it can be as easy as just something that you want to try to do more of in 2015.
Be patient: give yourself time to reach your goals. Don’t get down on yourself if you aren’t reaching your goals as fast as you’d like, be proud of how far you’ve come and use that as motivation to keep going!
In case you were wondering about what goals we are striving to reach in 2015, here they are:
1. Try new restaurants
2. Explore Los Angeles a bit more
3. Be a little more patient
4. Maintain a positive attitude and not worrying about things we can’t control
What are yours? We can’t wait to hear them!
