I am a huge planner and Sundays are my favorite day to do it. There is something refreshing about going into the week feeling like I have a handle on what is going on, what I want to accomplish, and having a few goals in mind. Aside from just thinking about what I want to get out of the upcoming week, below are a few things I do to help prepare me:
Grocery shop and plan out meals – Whether it is waking up and going to the Farmer’s Market or heading to Trader Joes, I try to do this early in the day. I hate waiting until the last minute because then everything is gone and picked over. Prior to going to the store I always make a list of a few key things I want to eat for the week so when I am home, I am not left with rummaging my refrigerator trying to put something together. Not only does this save time and money but I always have a healthy snack on hand.
Check the weather – I always joke that my husband is my own personal weather man. He has to be on top of the weather changes for work so I would occasionally ask him what the weather would be like but I never paid much attention to it. One day I was sitting down next to him and I had been envisioning what outfit I was going to wear the next day when he mentioned that the upcoming week was going to be miserable and rainy. Ugh. What?! I was not pleased and needless to say, I had to revisit my outfit choice and ever since then I started making it a habit to get a general idea of the weather. This has made outfit prepping much easier and saves me a ton of time in the morning.
Write everything down – Whether it is Dr. appointments, classes, workouts, dinner with friends, etc. writing it all down can help you visualize your week. I find this to be one of the most helpful things I do because it can help me find some balance in the week. I can fill in or take away as needed and set up the best week possible.
Plan for a little beauty pampering – I am a huge fan of pampering. I mean, who isn’t? Maybe it’s getting your nails done or doing some kind of a mask/scrub but I love planning it out and making it like a little date with myself. Plus I can also coordinate my skincare routine i.e. I wont exfoliate one night if I plan on doing a detox mask the following night. My skin is far too sensitive to do too much to it!
Relax – It doesn’t matter if I think the week will be overwhelming or not, I always try to spend an hour or so on Sunday night’s relaxing. This is when I do a little at-home spa treatment, read a book, or watch TV – whatever it is, I am relaxed!
Set Goals – The last thing I love to do on a Sunday is set a few goals for myself. Maybe I want to get 2-3 workouts in, try to wake up 30 minutes earlier to meditate or make sure I do x, y, or z for work during week, setting a few goals helps me stay focused and accountable. I also reflect on what goals I did or didn’t accomplish the week before and this helps me reach them for the upcoming week.
This may seem like a little much but as a working wife and mother of two, it really helps. And after doing it for a couple of weeks it becomes second nature and doesn’t quite feel like a chore but more of a therapeutic exercise. I may be crazy but it works for me!
What are some of the ways you get ready for the week?
