Breakfast is one of my favorite and most important meals of the day. If I skip or have a very light breakfast I find that I am much more sluggish and slow due to a lack energy – which is 100% not OK for my lifestyle. When I eat a health hearty breakfast, I am noticeably more energized and on my game. One of my go-to breakfasts is steel cut oats. With the right topping combination it is it is incredibly filling and delicious. I also prefer to make my own oats rather than use the individual packets because those are filled with sugar. Below is my everyday easy recipe:
What you need (purchased all from Trader Joes or your local health food store):
- Organic Steel Cut Oats
- Manuka Honey
- Chia Seeds
First you make the oats. Depending on the day it is or what I have going on, I make anywhere from 2-4 portions. The oats that I get takes about 30 minutes to make so sometimes I make it on a Sunday night or if I have time, I make it early in the morning as I prefer it hot from the stove!
Once the oats are made, I then add a teaspoon of Manuka honey, chia seeds, and whatever berries or fruit I have. I use Manuka honey rather than regular honey because it has antibiotic properties, boosts energy, and is great for skin! I add chia seeds because they are loaded with fiber, antioxidants, and a ton of nutrients.
Occasionally I add in some vanilla almond milk if I feel like it is too dry or a protein powder if I have worked out in the AM and need a little something extra but that’s it! Super easy and delicious!
